The TSS visa is a temporary visa which permits the holder to live in Australia while working full-time for the sponsoring employer in the nominated position. Applicants for a TSS visa may include dependent family members in their visa application.

Do I qualify?

The main requirements to qualify for the visa are:

1.    Be skilled in an occupation that is either in the STSOL or MLTSSL

2.    Have a minimum level of English

3.    Be of good character

How do I know if

“I am skilled” in an

occupation?

All occupations in the above lists are described by ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations). ANZSCO specifies:

a.    what is the educational requirement for the occupations

b.    how many years of experience are required to meet the standard

c.    if any licensing or registration is required

Besides the ANZSCO criteria, Immigration always require the applicant to have at least 2 years of full time work experience in the nominated occupation gained recently (in the last 5 years)

How do I demonstrate

my skills/work

experience?

  • Educational qualifications

  • Academic transcripts

  • Reference letters from previous employers describing the employment undertaken (period and duties)

  • Payslips and contracts (not mandatory unless required)

  • If self employed evidence of self employment

Do I need to pass

an English test

to obtain the visa?

Yes, an English test is mandatory for visa applications. There is no exemptions for applicants working for Australian businesses. The level of English varies based on the occupation. As a general rule, applicants for an occupation in the MLTSSL will need a level of English 5 – each band – in the IELTS test, while applicants in the STSOL will need a level of English 5 – Overall with no scores under 4.5 – in the IELTS test.  PET, CAE, TOEFL, OET are other acceptable tests.

I meet ALL the requirements.

Can any employer

sponsor me?

Employers need to meet certain criteria, too.

As long as an employer operates lawfully, profitably and has had no history of not abiding by the rules, it will most likely be able to sponsor.

There are, however, a set of criteria to be met for an employer to successfully sponsor.
